9. Types of Initial Membership

The organization will have four types of initial membership:

A. General Member:
A doctor registered with the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) who has a postgraduate degree in Anesthesiology, Pain Medicine, or Critical Care will be eligible to apply for General Membership. General Members will have voting rights.

B. Life Member:
Any General Member who has remained a General Member continuously for three years may become a Life Member by making a one-time payment of BDT 5,000 (Five Thousand Taka only) to the organization’s fund. Life Members will have voting rights.

C. Associate Member:
There will be three categories of Associate Members:

  1. Junior Doctor: A doctor registered with the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) who has been working or undergoing training in Anesthesiology for more than one year may apply for Associate Membership.

  2. Other Doctors: A doctor from any other medical specialty may apply for Associate Membership of the organization.

  3. Related Non-Medical Specialist: A Veterinary Anesthesiologist may apply for Associate Membership.

C(a). The Associate Membership fee will be half of the General Membership fee.

C(b). All Associate Members will enjoy the other facilities and benefits of the organization, except voting rights.

D. Honorary Member:
There will be two categories of Honorary Members:

  1. In Recognition of Contribution: The organization may grant Honorary Membership to individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of Anesthesiology.

  2. In Recognition of Donation: If any individual or organization provides a one-time, unconditional donation of BDT 100,000 (One Lakh Taka only), the organization may grant Honorary Membership to the donor upon application and approval.

E. Non-Postgraduate Anesthesiologists:
Non-postgraduate anesthesiologists will not be eligible for regular membership of the Society. However, they may become Associate Members.


10. Admission, Withdrawal, and Suspension of Membership

A. Admission:
Applicants for General and Associate Membership must apply using the prescribed membership form, which will be available at the organization’s office.

General Membership and all categories of Associate Membership will be renewable annually.

Membership will be granted upon completion of the application form, payment of a one-time admission fee of BDT 500 and the current annual membership fee of BDT 400, subject to approval by the Executive Council.

B. Withdrawal of Membership:
Any member may withdraw their membership by submitting a written notice to the General Secretary. The withdrawal will become effective after approval at the subsequent meeting of the Executive Council.

C. Suspension of Initial Membership:
A member’s initial membership may be suspended under the following circumstances:

  1. If the member is convicted by the Government or a court of law.

  2. If the member’s registration is cancelled or suspended by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC).

  3. If the member fails to pay the annual membership fee for two consecutive years.

  4. If a member engages in any activity that is contrary to the medical profession or the interests of the organization, or is involved in misconduct, anti-social activities, or activities harmful to doctors or society, the Executive Council may suspend the membership permanently or for a specific period.

Such action may be taken based on a specific written complaint submitted by one or more members of the organization or by the Executive General Secretary of a relevant professional organization, provided that the accused member is given a proper opportunity to defend themselves.

Any such suspension must be approved by at least a two-thirds majority of the Executive Council.


11. Duties and Rights of Members

A. Members shall cooperate with the organization in its various activities and comply with properly adopted decisions of the organization.

B. Every member will have the right to receive the journals, publications, booklets, and periodicals published by the organization free of charge or at a price determined by the Central Executive Council.

C. Every member will have the right to participate in conferences, seminars, and similar events organized by the organization, subject to the required registration.

D. General and Life Members will have the right to vote on all proposals presented at meetings of the General Council.

E. All Life Members and General Members whose annual membership fees are up to date will have the right to vote in all elections of the General Council and to contest for any position in the Executive Council, provided that they have completed the minimum membership period required for the respective position.
